Theatre III, Musical Theatre, Director, Recruitment

“I began my teaching career ten years ago at K.O. Knudson Middle School here in Las Vegas.  While at KO, I taught acting, musical theatre, theatre history, art and television production.  I also served as the department chair for both the Visual and Performing Arts departments.  I developed the musical theatre program at KO, which I am proud to say has turned into one of the most lauded programs at the school.

I graduated from the University of Evansville with a degree in Theatre Education and a minor in Speech and Communications. I had the opportunity to study theatre in England where I attended Harlaxton College.  This fostered my great love/obsession with Shakespeare. I received my master’s degree in Theatre from Central Washington University in 2009.  Professionally I have worked as a freelance director for San Francisco’s Ray of Light theatre.  I have continued my post-graduate studies at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas.

I am passionate about Arts Education and believe that all students can learn through the arts.  I started the Arts Integration committee at Knudson and I have since worked for the school district as an Arts Integration specialist, providing school and district training in arts education and developing strong theatre programs. In 2010 Magnet Schools of America named me ‘Teacher of the Year’ for my work in developing and supporting innovative education in the arts.

I am greatly influenced by my mother, who is a talented artist and educator. As a child, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to be, but I knew I wanted to be like her. I took classes in art, vocal performance, orchestra, and dance before I finally discovered my love for the theatre.  Theatre was perfect fit for me because it incorporated all the artistic disciplines into one art form. I have the greatest job in the world because I am able to combine my two loves: working as a theatrical artist and teaching young people.  I am thrilled and humbled to be joining the talented staff at Las Vegas Academy.”
